Punjab Agricultural University

 Punjab Agricultural University occupies a place of pride among agricultural universities/institutes of India by virtue of its high academic standards, creditable research achievements and very effective transfer of technology programs. The faculty members and the postgraduate students of the University have won numerous national and international awards and honors, such as Padma Bhushan, Padma Shree, Rafi Ahmed Kidwai Memorial Prize, Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Award, Hari Om Asharam Trust Award, ICAR Best Teacher Award, Jawahar Lal Nehru Award, etc. and the prestigious fellowships of the professional scientific academies/societies. The PAU was awarded 5 Centers of Advanced Studies out of a total of 24 centers awarded in the country to the agricultural universities and ICAR institutes. The PAU has recently been adjudged as the best agricultural university in India by the ICAR and awarded the Best Institution Award.

This premier institution was established in October 1962 on the pattern of Land Grant Institutions of USA. It had three campuses, Ludhiana (Punjab), Hissar (Haryana) and Palampur (Himachal Pradesh) apart from a net work of research stations/sub-stations scattered all over the State. With the reorganization of states, the campuses in the states of Haryana and Himachal Pradesh were transferred to their respective states. The Punjab Agricultural University was established under the Haryana and Punjab Agricultural Universities Act, 1970.  The university presently has six constituent colleges:

• College of Agriculture

• College of Agricultural Engineering

• College of Home Science at Ludhiana

• College of Home Science at Mukatsar

• College of Veterinary Science

• College of Basic Sciences and Humanities

Besides a number of regional research stations and Krishi Vigyan Kendras have been established in various agro climatic regions of the State to meet the research and extension needs of these regions.
